Storm Drain Pollution
Posted: February 25, 2025 • Category: Alerts
Bonita Bay has over 20 storm drain basins that connect to our waterways. Storm drain pollution is an increasing problem in Florida. It can damage the environment and cause harm to humans and animals. When waste blocks drains, water cannot properly flow through, as seen in the case of flooding during a storm.
A big issue in the community is dog waste pollution in our basins. Bonita Bay prides itself in living in harmony with nature, however, pet waste disrupts our ecosystem. Pet waste introduces bacteria, nutrients, and parasites into waterways, which affect human health and potentially contaminate drinking water. Trash and other pollution promotes algae and weed growth in our lakes and waterways.
Our basins are marked with medallions as a reminder to not throw waste in the sewer drain. Please avoid dumping waste that can negatively impact our community.
